From what I am hearing/reading around last night's 20 min highlights package: Lineker and crew's puff pieces and analysis, as well as manager/player interviews certainly not missed, whereas the in match commentary was missed.

I watched this morning as usual and it was like watching City's highlights on Youtube, They just show the goals/action without commentary, Wouldn't want that all the time.

FTR I don't think the Government policy is that unpopular with the British public depressingly, but suppressing someone's views because they disagree with the Government is generally viewed as bad, as it should be, by all but the rabid.

Tons of whataboutery obviously going on, but whataboutery is the most pointless form of debate. You can say people are hypocrites for wanting some cancelled, and not others, whilst doing the same yourself.

If you are a free-speech absolutist, speak up for them all, without caveats, or else you just want people to be able to say the views you agree with.

Like I've said elsewhere, in a world of consistent moral application the right would be defending Lineker's position to air his views and the left would be applauding the Beeb's upholding of the impartiality guidelines. But it'll never happen. People are too partisan to think either consistently or independently from their tribal party lines.

I'm on the left but would frankly rather see Jeremy Clarkson, Alan Sugar, David Starkey, John Cleese and Andrew Neil on the beeb, as well as Gary Lineker. This sensitivity is a race to the bottom.

As others have said, losing interesting, opinionated folk from the beeb only serves to benefit Murdoch et al.

I'd hope that anyone who voted Tory more than once in the last 13 years would respect the right of those in authority to make mistakes without being hung out to dry.

Interesting conundrum for the DG going forward, he’s probably shocked at the level of support for Lineker at the Beeb and will not of expected the disruption caused. It going to be interesting to see if the disrupters are willing extend that support for another week. Careers in the sports broadcast media are much sought after and apart from fellow millionaires like Ian Wright, not many will want to sacrifice their own careers for Lineker.
