Hope so, fred. Pint of Bass in the Virtual if you're right. Alan Beer might be joining us.Cam has certainly left a big shirt to fill. But I’m very confident that Bass will fillet.

Bass’s League One career record - 18 appearances, 10 clean sheets, 10 goals conceded. Not bad is it?Agee we need to give him a chance. The stars aligned last year which enabled us to get Dawson and we were always going to struggle to to get a GK of his standard. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I wonder if we should have gone after Pym though. It was only a couple of seasons ago that he was in the League One Team of the Year and just looking at the stats of both he and Bass on paper you would have thought Pym would have been a stronger signing.
Having said that I am sure Mansfield are probably paying all his wages to Peterborough which we wouldn't of been able to afford. 'd be interested to know if we were even in for him though. Maybe someone can ask at the fans forum?
Either way at least it now sounds like we have a GK on the way, and hopefully he will be a good addition.
But that was 3 years ago!! He's not played that high since and can't get in to his own L1 side! Think I'll reserve judgement for now, let's hope he surprises us like Cam did.Bass’s League One career record - 18 appearances, 10 clean sheets, 10 goals conceded. Not bad is it?
Last season Bass played 2 League one games and kept 2 clean sheets. Conceded 26 goals in 21 League Two games for Bradford. But that was 3 years ago!! He's not played that high since and can't get in to his own L1 side! Think I'll reserve judgement for now, let's hope he surprises us like Cam did.
It was a poor Bradford side like Pym was a in a really poor Stevenage side.Last season Bass played 2 League one games and kept 2 clean sheets. Conceded 26 goals in 21 League Two games for Bradford.
Pym conceded 48 goals in 29 appearances
I think the analysis in bold above is right. There's nothing wrong with setting your sights high, provided there's a strategy for when Plan A (and Plan B and Plan C) don't work. I fear there may have been an optimism bias from last year's success in the transfer market. Not only great signings in 2021 (Nombe,Dieng,Brown,Stubbs) but gambles paid off (waiting til 9 days before the season without a keeper ,then getting Dawson)I’m not sure - obviously it’s not gone right but I think that is (guessing of course) more down to strategic errors than negotiation ability.
Every pre season we’ve had with Taylor I felt like we’d done decent business, even in the weirdness of covid. He’s always seemed to pull extra quality out of the bag that no one could have predicted and usually has avery clear plan of action to get specialists into the areas he needs them (rather than wait and see Tisdale approach).
For whatever reasons the well laid plans haven’t, for the first time in his managerial career worked out (remember as a novice him and Kinder brought some excellent talent in). I’d argue we’ve had some League 1 players join us when in League 2 so my suspicion is that too much weight was being put on us internally that promotion made us a more tempting option despite seemingly having the same budget.
Given that MT was likely to have had an extensive list of initial targets, the fact that they (before he started going on about loans) all turned us down says 1 thing to me - we set our sights too high. Yes location and wages are a factor but not every single time and certainly the likes of Law, Brown, Nombe etc shows it’s not an insurmountable challenge. You could tell 6 weeks ago something wasn’t right - we got promoted before the end of the season with no play offs yet we’re very slow off the mark and with every week that’s gone the situation becomes less and less surprising.
