Think I'm going to wait until we have filled some of the gaping holes in the squad before I work out the best first XI.

“The DNA of our team is a bunch of nice boys from Devon, who wouldn’t say boo to a goose! But we have to understand that at times.”

Matt T - partly tongue in cheek I guess - referring to next captain ++

“I would love them all to be shouters and screamers and demanders, but they are not that sort of personality, so we have to understand what will help them to become more effective.

Is that a straight swap for Bowman?

Putting all of our money into a striker again! Sort it out Taylorthorpe!

This is something of an annual tradition so I'm surprised no-one else has started it yet. However, looking at the players we have under contract this is how we could line-up for the opening game. As always seems to be the case, the first eleven looks quite strong but there isn't much strength in depth.

4-4-1-1
Arthur
Caprice, McArdle/ Stubbs, Hartridge, Sparkes
Key, Collins, Atangana/ Kite, Randall
Jay
Bowman/ Seymour

3-5-2
Arthur
McArdle, Stubbs, Hartridge
Key, Collins, Jay, Atangana, Sparkes
Bowman, Seymour/ Randall
Normally both the 'under contract for the coming season' team and squad get stronger during the close season, but not so far this year!

Since the OP we've signed Brown and Coley, but lost Bowman. I think I'd start Brown ahead of Arthur at present (despite Brown's back up status). As for Coley, I might start him in the 4-4-1-1 with Key moving back to full back and Caprice dropping out. Bowman's departure means - until we sign a striker - that its either Seymour up front on his own in the 4-4-1-1 or Seymour+Randall in the 3-5-2.
