... has been diagnosed with alzheimer's disease. Stan, intensely loyal to QPR, was recently voted their greatest ever player by their supporters. It has been said that if he had gone to a bigger club he would have easily added to his 5 England caps.

Sad news indeed; he was a real character. Hope he has a good support network in place

A QPR supporting mate reckons he used to get somebody to stand near the corner flag with a radio, to let Stan know how his nags or dogs had got on, before he took a corner

City had a 'keeper called Alan Barnett during the 60's who liked radio commentaries. I can still picture Barnett standing in the back of his net during a stiffs game at SJP listening to some blokes radio. The sparse crowd gave him ample warning whenever the opposition threatened.

Was there a story that Barnett once conceded when fumbling around in the net for his cap? Or was that Shearing?

Dont recall that: Alan Barnett never wore a cap (or gloves!) to my knowledge, and Shearing only resorted to one on rare occasions. Alan did chatter to the crowd behind the net a bit, but only when he had a spell in the reserves after Shearing signed.
