He took it really well. It was rank bad defending from Oxford but he still had a lot to do - squeezed past two defenders and rolled it into the right corner to stop it being blocked.

Chasing lost causes in later stages of the game has to be a key tactic for Sonny as defenders are probably tired.

High hopes for Sonny he’s already scored the same amount of League goals as Seymour in about 60 less appearances!

It was interesting hearing him talking about the goal in the video pre FGR Papa Johns game. It was a really clever finish - the gap appeared to be on the far side, which the defender was frantically scrambling to cover. So Sonny sent it back across goal into the opposite corner.

Interestingly he said this was instinctive, rather than calculated. That bodes well if he has that type of instinct/intuition for the right/clever finish

Andrew, you are right and also total instinct similar to half of Cureton's goals where he gambled on the header and being on the front foot ahead of the reactions of the defenders. Really fine goal

Watching the U16's in their Floodlit Cup final where Sonny scored a load there were quite a few similarities with Cureton. The main one was hitting the shot early and not letting the goalkeeper set himself, a classic Curo trait. Sonny could have been excused for taking an extra touch after rounding the goalkeeper Saturday but that proper strikers instinct was to take it early before the defender could set himself.

Perhaps if or when young Mr Cox gets a sustained run in the first team he might even get his own fanzine?

They could call it "Some Sunny Day"

Good strikers invariably take their shots quickly so that the keeper and defenders are not set properly. Sonny’s ability to twist and send the ball in the other direction is also a key skill - very much like Curo. He also gambled on a defensive error, although he won’t benefit from so many of those in League 1 as he would have in League 2.

He's really starting to bulk up these days and become that much more physical. He has the potential to become a top striker for us.

Similar thing with two of Stanno's three goals, his two from distance were taken so quickly the goalkeeper didn't have the chance to react.
