Wow...That must have taken some research.
Agree, this is fantastic. This was before my time volunteering at the ecfc museum, but we have some more great stats coming.

Currently working on head to head vs every club we have faced in our history, around 17 teams left to do. Also digitalising every page of every programme and every single match report, a few missing but slowly getting there. Players who made non 1st team appearances are being added also. You can find the completed head to head stats on the Grecian Archive under A-Z on the drop down menu.

Wow...That must have taken some research.

The game against Chelsea in August 1981 was the only one I’ve been to where there had been a load of aggro at a ‘friendly’ game...It continued later on around the Quay nightclubs & then at the hospital between the injured parties.
Yeah, remember that one. My dad was very good friends with manager, and when I went to work there a couple of years later he was telling me about the absolute rampage the Chelsea fans went on in there - everything from ripping tills off the bar to smashing glasses, bottles, mirrors and windows. Apparently the police refused to take their dogs inside because of all the glass on the floor (think Bruce Willis in the first Die Hard).

Great to see a game listed at Gras Lawn(Barrack Rd) in 1996. That was the University teams football pitch. A very good one too. Sadly long disappeared under a posh housing estate now.
It was as you say an excellent surface and also doubled up as the University Cricket ground hosting a number of minor county fixtures over the years. Dennis was a truly outstanding Groundsman winning the south west award a number of times. It was as you say then sold for swanky houses before the new site was secured on Topsham Road

I read that the youth are off to foreign climes, pre season.
I had a bad case of foreign climes once, the anti rash cream soon cleared it up though 😀

Iirc didn't our "Exmouth Mart" buy one of said swanky houses and rent it out to one of the "terrible twosome" only to receive a cheque for rent drawn on the Exeter City (Swansea) account. When of course it should have been paid for out of their own pockets ! :(

The terrible twosome got into an awful muddle with their cheques on more than one occasion.

I remember Kyunghee [God bless him], asking them why the charities that were supposed to have benefitted from the Michael Jackson concert hadn't received any cash. Their response was along the lines of 'the cheques must have got lost in the post'.

To 'prove' their point they sent the Echo photocopies of the cheques which, as you do, they claimed to have made before sending them out. Unfortunately, they didn't really think this through as the photocopied cheques had Neil McNab's name printed on them but were dated several months before he joined the club as manager lol – criminal masterminds they weren't.

Suffice to say, the club has come a long way in the intervening 20 years!
