Quite a few seem to be of the opinion that if we get a vaccine etc the economy will be relatively strong and we will be well on the road to recovery.

I can't see it, you cannot have something like this happen and not expect to be in the $h1tter for a few years to come.

The UK is currently being propped up by all sorts of measures, sooner or later the support will be removed.

Vaccine or not I believe the next 2 - 3 years will be very tough.

Who knows. It could be optimistic.

Is anyone wondering about what other crap might rock up over the next 4 years ?
Today's tomorrow is tomorrow's today.
Regarding the Grauniad readers, apparently thousands are wondering about it. There will be a lot of crap - we've already had a lifetime's within one year. But it's true that many other countries will suffer some of that crap, too. At least we suffer with gallows humour (note I didn't use American spelling there).

Are the Guardianistas generally understanding of the proposed public-sector "pay freeze" or are they preparing to join O'Grady and McCluskey on the barricades?

It seems that when ministers commit unlawful acts then it's water off a duck's arse and passed by with impunity. Does that apply to the whole population?

This is an incredibly interesting take on why BREXIT has been pushed forward by "warlord" capitalists. The writer states that BREXIT isn't really about the UK at all : it is about allowing the "warlord" capitalists free, unregulated rein. Plus plus. If you have time and the will, please read. Very informative.

It is an interesting and informative take, indo, as are the following comments. A good read.

For the capitalism war also translates to the Tory blue-on-blue - 'warlord' Tories v 'housetrained' Tories civil war going on for eons now. The 'wets' v Thatcher and the 'bastards' v Major internecine warfare has morphed into the ERG/Vote Leave warlord faction now wielding power with all the one nation types expelled by the Johnson. The same PM who now shamelessly espouses the 'one nation' Tory party.

The question is...as ever - where do the Johnson convictions truly lie ? Or, does anybody notice the strings now Cummings has gone (allegedly).

Yes, we knew all that already. It's just that some people dressed it up as the rising up of The People against the establishment and, depressingly, an awful lot of people chose to go along with this fiction, for reasons best known to themselves. Who was backing Brexit - Hedge funders, city slickers like Farage, chancers like Arron Banks and Rees Mogg, who learnt all this stuff at his father's knee. Talk about hiding in plain sight.

And who's going to pay for this triumph of the warlord capitalists? Not so much the remainer elite, safe in their ivory towers making vaccines [bastards], but predominantly The People. Still, its what they voted for, so no reason to grumble

Good morning art

The People always pay. Whatever happens in life, The People always pay. It's the iron rule.

Every time I see a photograph of a government minister in their office, there are normally two large union flags prominently displayed. I'm sure this never used to be the case and suspect it's all about the Johnson/Brexit Party's claim to be deeply patriotic, inferring that anyone who opposes them isn't. (Ironic really, given that when it comes to caring about one's country and society, Johnson would feature fairly in the nether reaches of any league table, since the thing he cares about above everything else is himself).

I have a horrible feeling that these flags are going to go the same way as the Poppy in that if any future minister fails to display them they will be explicitly or implicitly criticised as being unpatriotic and "not caring about Britain". I pine for the days not so long ago when the display of symbols was a personal choice, not viewed as statement of attitude or belief to be judged by others
