I really admire how you can create an unshakeable belief in something based on a 5 year old internship advert. It's well established that you'll often just chuck up the first Google result without actually reading it, but surely the depths of the Daily Mail has a better example for you to triumphantly brandish as an incontrovertible truth?

I walked into that. Fair enough, you did what I asked 👍

I’m satisfied though that the number of times this happens is hugely disproportionate to the reaction it gets, but each to their own view.

Do children actually starve in the UK in 2020 ? We know some go hungry, but are they starving ?

In the first 6 months of this year, nearly 2500 children were admitted to hospital with malnutrition. That's double the admissions in the same period last year.

Think "Starving" is too strong a word to use but hungry is more appropriate in this. I can't believe we're having to have this conversation, Children in this day and age should NOT be going hungry. The Goverment are saying they're investing in the most vunerable children by way of the benefits system, £9bn is what they've quoted but respected bodies like the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and The Trussell Trust have seen marked increases in use of foodbanks which means more people are using them. You have to ask where exactly are the Government targeting?

Its not just about feeding hungry children but the whole Welfare System, Its easy cut the budget like they have over the last decade because certain papers and TV shows show thes people with loads of kids, Massive houses etc living the life of riley which for the vast majority of people on welfare is so far from the truth. The fact there are caps on benefits is making it tougher for people to feed themselves and their kids. To be frank living off welfare is nothing more than exsisting, If you rent, what you get is capped, Rents nowadays are sky high so you have to take money meant for other stuff to top so you can pay rent, Your utilities are on the highest tariffs because you pay by a "Paykey" rather than by direct debit, So you rob Peter to pay Paul.

I think what Marcus Rashford has highlighted is a failure of past and present Governments to help those in need, Social Housing is a Joke, A decent education is out of reach for poorer areas, Like the summer showed that if a bright pupil does well at a poorer state school their exams are marked down by exam people, Pure snobbery, Social mobility is a myth unless like Rashford you have a real talent and have a parent that is willing to miss meals to help you. Finally there has to be personal responsibility by the parent or parents, Without this, the rest is doom to failure

TBH FBH it didn't take much finding and glad you didn't dismiss it as "well its the Express what else do you expect from that rag" type comment.

Poor diet will be a fair percentage of that figure & sadly some parents do neglect their children where nutrition is concerned.

When you see the same kids day after day stood in the queue at the local chip shop because some parents just cant be assed to cook you have to think what its doing to the kids health in later life.

Would be interesting to see if there’s a correlation in the rise of fast food, and people not cooking with my perceived rise of two parents working full time.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez proposes a 70% tax rate on earnings over $10 million.
I undrestand that between 1936 and 1982 the top marginal tax rate in the US never fell below 70%. The current rate is 37%.
There was a debate at Davos 2019 involving Michael Dell and moderated by a Washington Post economics correspondent who did not seem to know the facts. Funny in a way but frightening in another.

Also at Davos 2019 a Dutch historian Rutger Bregman talked about tax avoidance "I feel like I am at a firefighters conference and no one's allowed to speak about water". Again funny in a way.

Biden may be a bit of an old codger but I believe the Democratic Party as a whole has capable people who ask the right questions. Whilst here in the UK Socialism dare not speak its name.
