it will be £25 million plus add ons IM. The club planned for this he was given a new contract last year, 4 years plus an option for an additional year.
You mean the longer contract they gave him means a higher transfer fee? That's true if the interested club wants to.pay what Brentford want
It seems strange that if Villa want Ollie that they don't just get it done. Why wait? If they're still playing cat and mouse just to save a couple of million it seems pretty cheapskate.

I know it's stating the obvious, but we languish a league below...so your logic probably doesn't stand scrutiny at the moment
They were 3 places above us with no way to know if they would have stayed above us if the season had been completed.
But I did say we were the better club, not the better team.
To say we're languishing in a league below them is a bit of an exaggeration, Malcs. And they're gonna have added expenses with little added income ( I imagine).

They’ve got a lot of competition. The bottom line is if they don’t pay what the club want he won’t go, or he will go to a club that will.

Still don't get your point about "the club planned for this".
Re your new goalscoring signing, did Brentford jump the gun?

No  We tried to sign him in January.

Never done this before

Agreed, 3 play-off finals in 4 years is hardly 'languishing' - just bloody frustrating to be not quite good enough to go up.

But still a lot better than we usually did under previous regimes, particularly in the years either side of 2000...that was proper languishing...

Basically, Brentford knew that Watkins was going to be sought after by a number of clubs so in order to get the highest fee possible they gave him an improved contract, more money and more years. This puts them in a safer position as if, for example, his contract was to run out next summer then Brentford may have to sell him for less now rather than lose him for nothing next summer, plus the extra wage Ollie is on means he will be less inclined to push for the move. Renegotiating his contract last year has put Brentford in the best position to maximise his price tag.
