Nah. VAR should have chalked it off.
Shilton was outjumped by a midget. Look how far Shilton’s feet were off the ground, joke.

Leapt off the sofa for that one.
The same in my house.
Iirc,Belgium had the better of that game early on.Enzo Scifo in particular giving the England defence & midfield the runaround

Bobby should have put Dave Beasant on. Not a call you would see in those days though.

A bit of film from the Official West Germany 1974 World Cup production.

3rd July 1974.

West Germany v Poland for a place in the final.
Horrendous pitch condition due to torrential rain that led to the game being put back a couple of hours.
I remember getting home from school & turning on the TV not expecting to watch the game.A nice surprise.

Poland of course eliminated England in that famous game at Wembley in Oct 1973.They were a very good team, probably the best all round team at that tournament.West Germany were fortunate to beat them.
Poland won the 3rd/4th Play Off game the following Saturday.

Southend v Liverpool FAC 3rd Rd Wednesday 10th Jan 1979.Shown on Sportsnight.

The game was due to be played on the previous Saturday.Called off for a frozen pitch.
A incredible 31,000 at Roots Hall watched Southend hold the reigning European Champions to a highly credible 0-0 draw.

In 1969-70 MOTD had a new format, but it only lasted one season. It was more like The Big Match, with regional variations. I don't remember it, just before my time, but I was wondering if any Exewebbers did?

ECFC featured twice, home to Northampton, away to Wrexham. (That's according to the listings, which aren't always reliable). I haven't found any footage on YouTube, does any exist at all? See the listings here ...
