I drove down the A38 in my recently purchased Ford Cortina 2000E(Metallic Bronze,Reg NOD 233P)
That metallic bronze was a fabulous colour on 1976 Cortinas. My neighbour had one which I wanted to buy off him as he hardly used it but he just held on to it until well beyond the point when my awful Mark II Escort had to be moved on.

Yours is still recorded on the DVLA site but not taxed after January 1987.

I had it until around the middle of 1985..
It was a fantastic drive.Lovely smooth gearbox that Fords were renowned for in those days.
The interior was beige.I covered the front seats with matching fake fur covers.I probably looked like a pimp with a interior like that 😁😎
Like all Cortinas of that era,the design of the wings & other bits of bodywork meant they were susceptible to water & damp retention which meant it was very rare for them to survive more than 13-14 years.

3rd January 1981
Picked up Darkie in the above mentioned Cortina at 7.30am from St Thomas.
Parked in Newtown, made our way to the Coach Station to board one of the 3 ‘official’ coaches to the game.
As was the norm back then, the majority of the travellers were male aged between 16-25 with a few cans of beer in carriers & 20 fags as sustenance for the long trip.

27th March 1976...Huddersfield Towns first visit to SJP.
They brought a couple of coaches full of supporters & caused a bit of aggro around the town after quite a few of them left at HT when they were 3-0 down.

Not sure if I’ve post this photo on this forum before.Apologise if I have 😎
No crowd allowed at FAC games this season.
40 years ago a few very slight improvements to SJP to cater for a large non ticket crowd expected to be between 17,000 to 18,000.
Bear in mind there were only 2 full working days to get anything sorted out.

Now safely converted to HF68
I was stood on those very platforms not sure how safe it was in hindsight and certainly would never have anything like that in this day and age.
What a night and remember rushing back home to watch the highlights on 'Sportsnight' just to make sure it really happened

Yes all a bit dodgy.
The ground as with all 3rd & 4th Division clubs at the time would not have needed a Safety Certificate because it was not covered by the Safety at Sports Grounds Act 1975.
There was little or no crowd management in those days & certainly no stewards except a couple of old boys in the Grandstand to point out your seat.

The temporary terracing stayed until early the next season iirc.

43 years ago from that memorable FAC 3rd rd game at SJP.
Eventful on & off the pitch.
Anyone remember the soldier up a platform on the back of a Green Godess Fire Engine with a Wolves Scarf at the junction of Well St & St James Rd ? 😁
He had a great view until the tender was called away.
It was during the Fireman’s Strike.
The South Staffordshire Regiment was covering Exeter.

Yes I was there behind the goal at the Wells Street end. Some Wolves fans changed ends at half time. From memory we came on strong in the 2nd half. I was celebrating our taking the lead when I was brought up short by an apple hitting me squarely on the back of the head. Still it could have been worse. Their equaliser (Steve Daley? who went on to sign for Malcolm Allisons Manchester City?) was a bit of a blow.

Yes..It was Steve Daley who equalised with a 20 yard shot in the 89th minute.

Wolves fans were at both ends.A lot made their way into the St James Rd end from the BB after the prematch pitch invasion when they tried to storm the Cowshed, being repelled by all & sundry that day.
The bank at the front made it difficult for them😁
