30th December 1989.
The Grecians followed up the win at Aldershot on the 26th December with a win at top of the table Southend to leapfrog them into top spot.
A unexpected couple of results because the Grecians were pretty poor on the road in the first half of the season. The game at Southend was my favourite of the season on the road, they were a good team.To turn them over at Roots Hall & take over at the top of the table was a day to savour.
Two days later was the 3-0 win on NYD against Torquay.9 points in 6 days.

1st January 1972.
Villa in Division Three, their second season. They were promoted at the end of the season.

Man U top of Division One,a flatter to deceive position. It was down hill from then onwards resulting in relegation in 1974.Derby memorably won the League Title in a 3 way fight with Leeds & Liverpool.

A difficult campaign for the Grecians, things were on the up from the next season.

The Police Black Maria Van.A fixture in St James Rd during match days in the 1970s.
Anyone who had their collar felt for unruly behaviour was put in the back & released at the end of the game.
Someone I knew was chucked in the back with others after a bit of disorder in the Cowshed. The irony of the story being he joined the Police Force a couple of years later 😁

Easter Monday 4th April 1988.

The Grecians did play but it was a 7.30pm KO so not included in the results deadline.Lost 2-1 at Stockport that evening.
Darren Rowbotham had given the Grecians the lead in the first half.
The coach did a double header that day.We first went to Maine Rd to watch MC see off Reading.
We were supping Ale at a pub in Stockport High St by 5.30pm,much to the consternation of the local plod who did not know about the visit to Maine Rd first 😁
They did not know where we were until 7pm despite the coach being parked right outside the boozer 🤣
Great day out.

5th September 1987.

The Grecians good start to the season continues, despite a draw at home to Wrexham, they are still top of the table with 10 points from 5 games.

The attendance at Ninian Park is correct.Wolves after the problems with their large support caused at Scarborough in the opening game of the season were banned by the FL from having supporters at away grounds.Home clubs had to make games all ticket, highly unusual for the 4th Division & very damaging financially.
The restriction stayed until the New Year.

30th January 1988.

The Grecians drop down the table continues.
Now 19th in the table after the defeat against inform Tranmere.
Incidentally this was the last appearance for the Grecians by Tony Kellow. He was still involved on the bench as a coach assisting John Delve until the end of the season.
