In the last match of the season 1963-64, the team arrived back at Exeter St Davids from Workington around 1pm on Sunday lunch time, having travelled all night. They weren't using sleeper carriages either !
I believe the last team to use regular train travel was Brighton until the mid 1980s on ‘Football Specials’
The team travelled in a couple of old Pullman Carriages from the former Brighton Belle with supporters in the other carriages.

Birmingham City’s first visit to SJP for a competitive game.Memorable for Tom Kelly being pelted with snowballs from the St James Rd end as he took a penalty, little wonder he did not score.

I was there that day. Also remember Eamo (who was a Birmingham substitute) goading the city lads on the Bank as he warmed down after the game. They responded with snowballs at him. Then the Blues fans saw it, didn’t like it, so came onto the pitch down to the Bank where there was fighting.

I also remember leaving the ground and seeing more aggro. The ‘good old days’.

22-29th January 1977.

A good point for the Grecians at Valley Parade against a side who would join them in promotion at the end of the season.

30,000 at Ninian Park to see the FA Cup 4th Round game between 2nd Division Cardiff & 3rd Division Wrexham.

Roy McDonough is tackled by Sheffield Uniteds Paul Stancliffe at SJP 10th March 1984.

Interesting to see the John Hore Health Club advert on the front of the Grandstand.A place I frequented a couple of years before.
Sauna,Sunbeds & a good gym above one of the shops just past the Guildhall.
The problem for me was after working out in there for a couple of hours I popped into the Turks Head pub for a few to replace all of the sweat 😁

I love these kind of pictures that show a bit of on pitch action and a snapshot of the stands and crowd.
I wonder how many clubs still have sunken dug-outs?
