Mr Hutchings was on trial for attempted murder in 1974 whilst serving in the army in Northern Ireland.
What was the point was of dragging a ill man(he had kidney failure)from Cornwall to Belfast for a trial ?

Couldn't agree more. He also had Covid.

Listening to reports today he was recieving treatment in Belfast while the trial was going on and caught it in the Belfast Hospital, I think the trial had been adjourned due to his medical condition worsening and treatment he was having, Still though, RIP.

Indeed, amongst many other parts I’ll remember his bit as a vicar in One Foot in the Grave who spends Christmas evening with Victor Meldrew , being held up by a nutcase with a machine gun counting down the end of the world. Think the episode was screened about 1990, may have been a Christmas special. ( Thinks , was it really thirty odd years ago?)

It was a characteristic of British 'secret agent/detective' shows that the actors playing those higher up the chain of command were often played by actors who could also have been cast as stereotypical villains. It helped the hero versus both villain and authority narrative.

James Michael Tyler dies aged 59, He played Gunther in Friends. RIP
