Can't believe MJ gets any criticism.

MJ has developed into a proper quality league 2 player who can score goals from any attacking position.

His football brain is up there as well. What we've witnessed is a youth player play for us and getting better year by year.

The reason we've seen him have previous quite seasons is because he's not a brought in established player and he's also not a championship quality player

He's a fantastic league two player who could do it in league one and that is a quality standard to be at.

I for one would rather MJ then a player like Tom Nicholls. Tom was rated the better of the two but MJ is by far better now. Kudos to our coaching staff and MJ for believing in himself

I don't think many sensible fans were writing MJ off completely. However, it was still legitimate to highlight his poor form before Saturday and wonder whether he might struggle to re-produce his excellent performances from last season.

Our captain seems to be attracting attention ahead of the January window - 20 scouts! https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/portsmouth-fc/transfer-gossip-portsmouth-in-race-with-ipswich-millwall-and-barnsley-for-exeter-city-ace-matt-jay-3397916

Shame about his change of name, another class publication no doubt!!!!

modern football journalism - both the Yorkshire Post and Hampshire Live articles say 'Football League World reports that (Barnsley/Portsmouth) are interested in Jay'. So the one report becomes three because it is repeated in an echo chamber!

Having said that the worrying aspect was the mention that Portsmouth need someone to nail down the No 10 role for them. T'would be interesting to have Chimes take on this report.

Whilst all the focus is on 5 in 5 Sam Nombe, little Matty Jay appears to be sneaking under everybodies radar with a goal every other game in the league, and should have had more had he put his penalties away (but that's ifs and buts and maybes), currently lying joint third on the BBC chart (league goals only) and rarely a mention of him on Quest. Long may it continue

I thought this on Saturday. Glad he is going under the radar of Quest, although I suspect that clubs higher up the pyramid have noticed his qualities. Fingers crossed we can keep hold of him!

Backing Gary Caldwell, thanks Matt and good luck.
Since things clicked a couple of years ago , and he started scoring regularly, he has got 40 in 95 appearances.

If he hadnt missed the penalties he could have had double figures already.

Long may his goal scoring streak continue.
