The squad is selected and at last we know who, barring injuries etc, will be on the plane to New Zealand. Warburton will be a great captain again, in my opinion there was no one else in the frame. There are many players left out who must be wondering why and one or two who were lucky to be selected.

Congratulations to Jack Nowell too.

Six weeks to go, can't wait.

Did Grecian make it? I saw he was sitting on a plane yesterday.

First casualty from the tour party is Ben Youngs with some pretty awful family issues. Danny Care to get the nod ?

Think they've gone for Laidlaw.

Bad news as Billy Vunipola withdraws through injury. James Haskell will be delighted to get the call but, honestly, is he the next best option ?

More likely either C J Stander or Ross Moriarty to be promoted to starter in place of Billy, Haskell a second stringer.

After this weekends developments I fully expect New Zealand to win the series 3-0 and afterwards there to be an announcement saying that Warren Gatland and anyone else of his ilk will never, ever, get near the Lions set-up again. Ever.

Oh and by the way New Zealanders, it's a Test match and not a TIST match.

Whereas I'm quietly optimistic. Okay so the AB's put a cricket score on Samoa. However, it probably doesn't help matters that Samoa, like Fiji and Tonga, have their best players creamed of by the likes of well, just about everyone.

Jack Nowell had an excellent game against the Chiefs after a somewhat dismal start to the tour. I thought at times during the game against the Blues he looked like he was worried about coming off his wing. Against the Chiefs, Warren Gatland encouraged him to "go out and play the same way as he does for Exeter." Two tries and an assist seems to be the result of those instructions. Having said that I feel that Jack will sit the first test out with the Anthony Watson, George North and Leigh Halfpenny getting the nod while the 23 shirt goes to Elliot Daly. I hope I'm wrong on that score.
