Rightly never replaced Steve Perryman, Clubs at our level do not need a DOF, Seems a vanity and costly project for small clubs. If a DOF goes round scouting players, Setting up deals, Let's be honest where we and FGR are we go shopping at bargain basket level.
At our level a Director of Football often seems to be a proxy for someone with a bit of experience who can act as a sounding-board or mentor for a younger manager. Eric possibly did that for Matt Taylor last season but it's interesting that there is no-one over 40 on the coaching staff this year. However, I get the impression that one of the reasons Eric left was because he felt the manager didn't need the benefit of his wisdom anymore and was more than capable of doing the job without his help.

Just think it's a unessacary waste of money, Lower league clubs have dealt with higher league clubs for years before DOF were around, They'd sh*t on us whether we have one or not, ECFC seem to be doing well without one so far and I don't think MT would want one either, He seems to be a man in charge who takes the bad times and good times on the chin

Steve Perryman did indeed provide a vital mentoring role for our first three managers following the Trust taking over the Club, but there was another pivotal role that he fulfilled. Eamo, Ingelthorpe and Tis all came from a background of youth/college football where negotiating transfer fees was an alien concept. Steve took the lead on negotiating all transfers, and his own experience and standing in the game brought "gravitas" to the proceedings and stopped other clubs from thinking that they could pick up bargains from a Club who in their eyes, was run by just an amateur bunch of fans playing at running a football club. Hence we secured good deals on the likes of Moxey, Friend, Seaborne and Grimes. Working with Steve has allowed Taggy to hone his own skills in this respect, to the extent that he has become more than proficient in that role and taken over.

Agree 100% with everything you have said.....such a pity that the eventual parting of the ways could not have been more amicable.

If i had to agree with you we would both be wrong
I thought was fairly amicable when he actually left saying he was going to lead a nice quiet retirement in Lympstone village and then rumbled up after a nice holiday at Tisdale Inc !

Is this going to drag on for months I wonder? What if they get promoted? The EFL and member clubs need to get their act together on this.

Paddy Power have installed Del Bauy Adams as odds on favourite to take over the hot seat at Leyton Orient. Luckily we have played them at home already, so if he gets the gig, we won't have to put up with him at SJP this season (cup draws permitting) bemoaning the refs and everybody else who in his view were responsible for a disappointing result !
