It has been a bit of an 'orrible year all round for him, what with "Wagatha" to cope with on the home front too, probably in dire need of a holiday !

I think that's a sensible decision for Rooney. He has actually come out of it with a decent reputation as manager for his first job under those circumstances. He might want to be more careful that his next appointment isn't going to be at a basket case though.
