A big part of the problem IMHO is that these Walter Mitty characters brag to the media how much they’re purportedly worth and sections of it give them credence by reporting these figures as fact.
Does the North Devon guy who held Jacko’s umbrella aloft when he appeared at SJP have a few quid in the bank? Almost certainly. Does he have a £120M fortune? Let’s just say I’m sceptical.
