Starting to heat up at the top of the GC with Roglic ripping his way up the final brutal climb of the day which apparently he didn’t even know to take the stage and is now only 13 seconds back on Carapaz...Dan Martin still hanging on in there for grim death...Hugh Carthy gave it a good old go again but didn’t quite have the legs to hang on.

First time that climb has been used apparently. They might go back 🙂. The two favourites flexing their muscles. Movistar as so often showing a strength in their team to set up an opportunity their leaders don't quite have the legs for.

Maybe they need a new Team Leader 😁

Gruelling stage today with some savage gradient of up to 23% in the final 6km or so which was magnificently won by Hugh Carthy 👍..Carapaz managed to open up a 10 seconds lead on of Roglic in the GC and is now in red...a rest day tomorrow then the time trial which will probably see Roglic take it back again.

The L'Angiru didn't disappoint did it. From the helicopter shots it looked like they were riding through treacle on those brutal slopes. What a first stage win at a grand tour to get for Hugh Carthy. Shades of Froome about him in his unorthodox riding style. Froome also showing stronger as the race is going on.

Carapaz in red and Roglic has Sepp Kuss to thank today for helping to limit his losses. The time trial should be in Roglic's favour but who knows this year. There's a lot wrong with 2020 but what a year for the Grand Tours. They have been excellent viewing and unpredictably exciting.

Special mention for Jonas Vingegaard for time he spent on front of that group going up Angiru 👍🏻👍🏻

Tim Wellens or lotto Soudal won yesterday’s stage as part of a breakaway group that stayed out front pretty much all day...today we’re back into the mountains for much of the stage so should be of interest to the GC contenders.

Wonder if Roglic was having flashbacks at any point today. He measured his effort well though to hold off Carapaz by 26 seconds with High Carthy getting a brilliant podium and Dan Martin fourth.

The grand tours this year have been a treat. How often have they all had such close finishes going down to the wire?

Primoz Roglic wins the Vuelta for the second year running and well deserved too, an exciting sprint finish to today’s stage won by Ackermann of Bora...all three grand tours have thrown up some great riding with some unexpected names coming to the fore 👍👍 Hopefully next year will back on the normal calendar 🤞🤞

What sort of tour did Chris Froome have, chaps? Talking of Ineos, I see that Ian Stannard has announced his retirement.
