Josh’s level is L1. He has some good moments and some poor moments. Is not a natural goal scorer and defensively positionally poor. He has pace which will always make a player look better than they are, but after beating a player the final product (cross/pass) is more than often poor. If he wants a more up the leagues he needs to improve the above and consistently.

I think a lot of the criticism of Key is harsh, I think he's a decent enough league 1 player who is still young enough to improve.

He played quite well yesterday, always an option and beat his man more often than not, particularly in our dominant spell at the start of the second half.

The thing with Key however is he does the hard work, beats his man but very rarely finds someone with a cross or cut back. His final ball really lets him down. IF he can get that right he could definitely play at a higher level.

We saw yesterday why bigger clubs are and were interested. Josh had the beating of his opponent all afternoon long. He has that great ability (the second most important in football) of being able single-handedly to open up an opposition defence. Like others he's gone seamlessly from League Two to being an automatic first choice in League One, so a player the top League One sides would welcome in their squads (and an asset to some Championship sides too - coming off the bench when a goal down,Josh could well be key* to creating an equaliser.)

I can believe the £1.6m bid from Blackburn story (though I have no direct evidence, and as SJ rightly points out the quoted figure may be more than the up front figure) At the time Blackburn said that the offer had a considerable January premium and that they wouldn't offer anything like as much in the summer. They comment sounded like a cry of puzzlement at refusal of an 'over the odds,we're desperate' offer, rather than the 'playing to the home audience, and trying to unsettle the player' comment from Sunderland about having offered a million quid.

Josh has all the attributes to succeed at a higher level than L1. That doesn't mean he will. Ultimately clubs gamble based on the stats and on instinct. His stats are decent, he is relatively experienced for a young player, and has come from a club with a track record for developing players. This all plays in his favour.

No surprise it wasn’t with his foot
Scored with his foot today! Two in two for Josh and a first home league goal. He's looked better and better since he's been back playing at wing back.

Layed one on a plate for Collins as well. More than good enough for League One

Best goal of the game today. An absolute pearler of a ball from Will Aimson that had the full back not knowing whether on his arse or his elbows and Josh's first touch exploited it to the full to take him clean through.

Really played well, played on the front foot, must have scared the crap out of his defender.
