The 2nd leg play off for qualification for the 1974 World Cup in West Germany.(1st leg 0-0)
Chile v USSR in Santiago.

The Soviet Union refused to travel after the military coup led by General Pinochet ousted the Socialist President Allende. The Stadium had also been used as interment camp for Allende followers after the coup.

The Chile team took to the field & scored a symbolic goal with no opposition on the field.

East Germany v West Germany in the 1974 World Cup in Hamburg.

The height of the Cold War(remember that ?) polar opposite ideologies on the football field.
I remember watching the game.It was a shock that the West Germans were beaten. They had the last laugh, because they had already qualified & went into a easier 2nd group stage(avoiding Holland & Brazil) There were uncomfortable suggestions at the time.

3 Home Nations in the finals.Heady days for UK International football especially as things were not going too well off the pitch domestically for clubs.
