I'll tell you what it was like on the Big Bank today when Jev scored...bleddy loud. And I didn't even have my hearing aid in 😁. There was quite a buffeting though. Loved it.
Yeah but don't forget.......... you were stood just behind me.;)

After 9 home games we are averaging just over six and half thousand which, considering we've had only one team sell out the away end, is remarkable. And with 3 potential sell-outs coming up we could be looking at an average of seven thousand at the half-way point of the season.

There's a reason for that. Noise travels forward and my neck doesn't take a battering by you jumping on it 🙂

While we've been in the third tier before - three spells of around three years each since I was a teenager - I cannot remember a time when the home attendances and atmosphere were at this kind of level. Is this going to be our record breaking year for attendances, or did we used to pull in more in the 50s/60s etc? It's certainly an amazing atmosphere being generated and something our stadium has hardly ever been known for, the proverbial "difficult place to go to". I remember bemoaning only a few years ago that the home crowd were not jacked up enough and didn't put enough pressure on away teams and referees. The change has been incredible. I suppose we have Matt Taylor to thank for that as he transformed the team into an enterprising and attacking unit, while making sure we weren't too gung-ho. Also the work the club has done at grass roots level to make it a welcoming place for everybody. This season is becoming legendary, sometimes I have to pinch myself while watching us smashing goals in for fun on a Saturday afternoon. I cannot imagine what it was like to be in the Big Bank watching Jevani sweep that winner in so emphatically in added time today. I would have done myself an injury celebrating that.

We have some amazing fans and it's great that people have the club to keep their spirits up in these days of increasingly hard times economically.
The post war years were the boom time for attendances. City averaged over 10,000 on four occasions the highest being 10,319 in 1952/53.

Whoops, just noticed that there is another thread on SJP capacity. Been really busy recently so didn't see it, sorry.

I think, 20 odd years after construction, the Bank is truly an iconic part of the fabric at City now. I know there are nostalgic views about the Cowshed and rightfully so but it never sucked the ball into the net like the new Big Bank does. Proper Kop of a stand and unrivalled in the league system.

Now fund some side panels 😉

The atmosphere on the Big Bank yesterday was special and it really felt like we were willing the ball into the net. You can see how the players respond to the crowd and it feels like we are in this together and the Ipswich game could be a special atmosphere next Saturday for the Sky cameras.

With the Away end sold out we need to pack out the rest of the ground and make it another special atmospher.
Our next three home games are against Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth, all of whom could fill the Away End, and result in true sellouts at SJP ! :)

About time, some of the turnouts in the away end have been shocking so far.

Hell of a result that - and a pretty incredible start to your season. If you can avoid more injuries to key players who knows where this season will take you. I'm genuinely made up for you all.
Thanks. I hope you feel the same after you're on the wrong end of a spanking on Boxing Day 😁

I guess we're managing to retain fans better? And fans that have grown up with a noisier atmosphere and are more inclined to add to it themselves?

When I started watching in the early Nineties there were six or seven of us in our early teens that went week in week out. But City were shit for years so they all stopped bothering. There was also only a very small group in the Cowshed making any noise at all and very rarely would anyone join in a song.
