It's interesting, but I understand similar headgear worn in rugby does not any significant protection against head injuries.

Most rugby injuries are presumably to the neck, spine, jaw and ears rather than cranium?

I'm not sure what the proportion of injuries are in rugby, but concussion is a hidden epidemic according to one report I've just read. So it looks like helmets are not a panacea for football or rugby.

In fact in football headgear may make the situation worse by giving a false sense of security with players believing that they can head the ball with impunity.
