Just caught up with the highlights, no exaggeration to say that was epic days cycling...it needs a full report to do it justice.

Tao Geoghegan Hart closes on Giro d'Italia lead after second place on stage 18

This is going to be a hell of a finish. Will having two contenders so close confuse things for Sunweb? Especially as Kelderman was the one losing time forcing them into a tricky tactical decision today to let Hindley go on rather than wait for him?

One more mountain stage and a time trial left to decide it.

Although it made for great racing Sunweb probably should have told Hindley to drop back and support Kelderman, he would probably have a lot more than a 15 second lead to protect if they had done so.

It was a really difficult decision for them wasn't it. In the end Kelderman lost most of his time on the flat when Rohan Dennis was pulling. If he had Hindley pulling for him, you would have to figure he would have limited his losses as you say. I guess Sunweb didn't know how bad he was going to drop off when he did and having Hindley more or less equal with Tao on GC it clouded things.

As an aside, I have never been so nervous watching a man trying to put on a jacket before 😳.

Rohan Dennis with another blinder and it's all down to the ITT and nothing in it between Jai and Tao. Too short a time trial for Kelderman to get back now.

Ineos couldn't have thought they would be in this position when G went home. It seems to be a year of the changing of the guard with the younger riders coming through.

Another thrilling stage yesterday three circuits of Sestriere made for exciting viewing, it looked for a long time that Hindley had the legs on Tao but was fairly beaten into second place at the finish line, like they said on comms Dennis was man of the match again...10 mile TT to decide the Giro 😬

Brilliant for Tao 👍👍👍.

What a story for UK cycling. We were all looking for success this year, looking for Geraint, Froome, Simon and Adam Yates. It looked like Ineos would have a tough year and look for stage wins and Tao Geoghegan Hart and sneaks up on the blind side of everyone and does both.

Big rides although they will be disappointed for Jai Hindley and João Almeida after being in pink. It's the year of the young cyclist's so far.

Truly emotional days sport and a great day for British cycling and Tao Geoghegan Hart, understandably Jai Hindley looked absolutely gutted at the end slumped over his handlebars, overall the Giro d’Italia (said with an Italian accent🤣) has been a cracking three weeks of sport 👍👍

Is this something to do with the Italian benefits system?
