To be fair to JCwhoosh GC said we were ‘close to a few’ on January 2nd and since only signed white. GC was probably overly bullish when discussing January in the early interviews, probably realised it’s a lot more difficult than first thought. Since then the narrative has changed back to the right characters talk MT always used.

But it’s a positive he won’t just bring anyone in to make up numbers like some managers. But the fact Harper is still here suggests the window probably hasn’t gone as well as hoped so far. Plenty of time left though!

Interestingly there is no quote to that effect in the article.

The actual quote is 'We hope to add more and will try to do it'. No timing is mentioned in that quote.

Is the headline simply one young, harassed journalists spin on the interview rather than what GC actually said? Its this sort of coverage that sows division between club and fans because it creates misleading expectations

Also its interesting to test the quote against what (dire) circumstances would be needed for the opposite to be true - ie City are not hopeful that there will be new signings, and are not trying to do it. So what GC says is not very much at all.
