Some have argued that the following remakes are better than the originals:

Blade Runner 2049
Godfather 2
Aliens

Some of the newer Batman films are better than the first one. Ditto Spiderman and Star Wars.

One remake that will definitely better than the original (which was a bit of a stinker) is the forthcoming Dune. Can't wait until it's released. If Jodorowsky got there first it'd be a different matter.

You're mainly talking about sequels, not remakes.

Heat - (was a remake of LA Takedown)

The Thing - John Carpenter - 1982
Was just about to suggest the The Fly - David Cronenberg - 1986 (agree with Mr Jinx)

As a western buff I’d say that 3.10 to Yuma 2007 was marginally better than the 1957 original. Much as I liked Ford and Van Heflin in their roles , I found the 2007 version’s ending much more satisfying.

Lord of the Rings (post 2000) trilogy better than Ralph Bakshi’s late seventies attempt, which was only half completed. Groundbreaking animation at the time but not a jot on the Peter Jackson movies. Funnily enough I watched the Bakshi movie last week as I have it on DVD. So dated now.

I preferred Aliens to Alien. Both great movies though. Not seen the new Blade Runner movie. Must watch it.
