Miracle that Grosjean came away from that still in one piece 🙏 the Sky coverage seemed to suggest the accident may have been caused by a something coming away from one of the Alpha Tauri’s three or four cars in front of Romain which he unavoidably drove over.

There was a piece of bodywork that came off of Lance Stroll's car but also Kimi had run wide on Grosjean's left and would have been coming back on to the track in a tightening gap between Grosjean and the wall of cars ahead. That's the point where you can see Grosjean turn his steering quite hard to the right. Unfortunately Kyvat would have been in his blind spot and they collided.

Ross Brawn told Sky after the race that the Armco and the fuel fire will be looked into as they are the events which shouldn't have happened. You do get freak accidents like these which are difficult to predict. Clearly you don't expect an impact at that angle on that part of the track. Something out of the ordinary caused it. Thankfully the halo saved Romain from impact to the head which would likely have been fatal and he wasn't knocked out at any point which would have made it much more difficult to extract him.

As the drivers have pointed out themselves, motor racing is a dangerous sport and they know the risks. You cannot always foresee every eventuality but F1 and the FIA have been good at responding. As tragic as the deaths of Henry Surtees and Jules Bianchi were which were both seen at the time as freak accidents, the halo was brought in against quite a bit of contention from some quarters. It's a decision now that won't be questioned again.

Karun Chandhok went through it on the Skypad, all though somewhat out of focus there was some bodywork that appeared to go under Grosjean’s front right wheel that suddenly made him veer across the track.

Karun also said about Kimi and that the debris might not have been the reason. He said until Romain says what he was reacting to, he could only say the two possibilities from his experience.

Relief that he's olay. Didn't think he would.
As predictive text howler that was a tad unfortunate , however I suppose that he might well benefit from the application of "Oil of Olay" in the circumstances ! 😎

Great news that he survived that crash and fire relatively unscathed.

George Russell racing in Hamilton's car this weekend. What an opportunity!

Could be a double edged sword. One off go in a car everyone expects to win against a driver a lot of people will expect to him to beat on a track layout that is a bit alien to F1. Seeing as he was already on track for a Mercedes seat in 2022, his reputation could go either way. Shouldn't be judged on a one off race but many will anyway. But having been offered the drive, go for it George.

Also good for Jack Aitken to have a drive even though it's in a Williams. His stock hasn't had the best of season's in F2 although driving for a team who have struggled.
