Comfortably mid-table
A closer game than the score-line suggests but once again City do well to build a lead and then hold out at the end.

Both keepers made brave saves early on and got clattered for their efforts.
City had the better chances in the first half including what looked like a well worked goal but the ref had seemingly spotted a foul by us in the move.

A penalty near half time and Zoe Watkins puts us ahead at the break.

Then a sweetly taken free kick by Emily Toogood who placed the ball with some skill into the top corner.
(I heard some on-pitch banter between the players just afterwards suggesting that it had been practiced and crafted on the training pitch).

The next goal is down to determined play by Jenna Markham and for the second time in two weeks City have a 3-0 advantage.

Bournemouth had no option but to get back in it somehow and, although City kept their back line well for the most part, a good through ball gave Bournemouth their chance to pull one back.

There followed a period where AFC Bournemouth had 'stickier feet' in the 50/50 challenges and a ball down the right wasn't cut out enabling them to get a ball into the area and forcing a defensive foul to get them a penalty.

So 3-2 and a nervy last 5 minutes.

It has to be said that City did keep their nerve.

Connie Pengelly, who had come on a sub, challenged really well for the ball out towards the left and look set to score until brought down heavily.

A red card for their player and another well struck penalty by Zoe Watkins made absolutely sure of the win moments before the final whistle.

Onto the next round for City and the winning habit continues.

All this, warm weather and a good crowd again with hot and cold drinks and snacks at a quid a pop and hog roast baps at a fiver for those who've skipped Sunday lunch.

A trip to Exwick Hub for the next home game very much recommended.

Excellent, well done to the city women, hopefully there’ll be another midlands based away game this season 👍
