It doesn't help them when the whole team is full of kids. Richards has done well when he is amongst the full timers, but when he becomes the most experienced player on the pitch at the age of 16 its too much.

I would expect some honest discussions with them before the next academy game, but no need to write them off yet.
Except the team wasn't full of kids. We had Woods in goal who is supposed to be an experienced pro good enough to be L1 back-up and we had Watts, Fitzwater, Jules, Taylor, Cox and Scott starting all supposed to be L1 players. We had 7 SEVEN first team pros on the pitch at the start of the game.

But at least we aren’t Scunthorpe. This is some statement:

Kids plus
Fitzwater - first competitive game of the season.
Watts - second competitive game of the season.
Taylor - first start in 18 months.
Scott - coming back from injury.

just to confirm for those who didn't see this game that the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game. It was a genuine 9-0 game.

Don't let that get in the way of a good hysterical moan.

Words fail me. IMO this statement deserves a thread of its own.

Wondering if I'm on a different planet
I knew I should have watched Coronation Street last night instead! Thinking about the game though, I believe what it does show is the lack of opportunity it shows about the youngsters playing as a team. They seemed to me to have no idea of where their team mates were, both in terms of their passing and their defensive covering. To me they played as a group of strangers and that was exaggerated by the link up play that Reading showed. Many of their moves appeared to be attempts to mirror the way that the first team play but without the same relationship with each other.

Love the fact that we have more comments for the Reading Matchday Thread than for Cheltenham last Saturday. Does that mean EFL Trophy matches are more important to us?

no there was just 5 posts for every goal that went in as score updates so there’s 45 there alone.
