Yes, and I don’t think it ever was compulsory either and has always been up to the individual.
In theory, yes, but the pressure on teams and individuals has been strong. Wilf Zaha and others got criticised for taking a stand on it becoming a performance.


I'm not sure it will survive as a general policy next season.

Not theory, it’s how it actually was. No-one was specifically told they had to do it, no clubs issued instructions to the players telling them they had to do it, there was nothing from the leagues or government stating it had to be done. it was entirely the individual’s choice.
