Peter Hatch was different class that night. Involved in all 4 goals.18/2/1981, Exeter 4 Newcastle 0 FAC.

Had to watch it again! Yes, Hatch was a fantastic player, corners, crosses, shots and of course throw ins! Just get it in the box and see what happens?Peter Hatch was different class that night. Involved in all 4 goals.
It was pay on the gate don’t forget, so that’s why it was probably a earlier gates open time..Iirc they were opened at 5pm for the Leicester game.Interesting that they opened the gates at 4.30 for that one. Cant remember what time i got there but it was a tight squeeze in the Cowshed that night.
I don't think it does, not even Leicester 3-1 with Kells hattrick the previous round. We would have battered anybody that February night in 81, Newcastle just happened to be the wrong team in the wrong place.18/2/1981, Exeter 4 Newcastle 0 FAC.

I had to pinch myself at HT !We would have battered anybody that February night in 81, Newcastle just happened to be the wrong team in the wrong place.
The crazy thing at that time was that the TV companies were contractually prevented from announcing in advance which games that they were showing In their highlights programmes. So that night although the programme was scheduled, they were unable to say that it would be City v Newcastle being featured. This was somewhat farcical as it was the only Cup replay taking place that night !I had to pinch myself at HT !
I quickly got back to Howell Rd post match, where I’d parked, to tear back home to Dawlish Warren, just got in the door as Sportsnight was starting(9.55pm iirc)The crazy thing at that time was that the TV companies were contractually prevented from announcing in advance which games that they were showing In their highlights programmes. Due to work I was unable to get down to Exeter for the game, and had to settle for watching the highlights without knowing the result in advance. In the introduction they referred to "the remarkable match" from SJP Exeter which led to some consternation at half time. Whilst over the moon to be three nil up, I was a little worried that "remarkable" might indicate a second half turnaround by the Toon !
