My comment was a bit tongue in cheek, Pete and I can understand well your desire to defend the county you live in : I have to do that often on here.
So my comment was jokey but a little bit naughty.
I think beating the Germans and the Japanese was a collaborative effort where many nations made huge sacrifices.
As you know, the Americans fully joined the war when it was clearly an imperative for their own interests to do so : they didn't intervene for a couple of years
previously.
The Germans were not far from developing the atomic bomb, which would have been a massive threat to the Yanks, too, so they did the right thing.

Apparently in France 50% of those in ICU (CORONA) are under 50 years of age
His point is that in China the population is very homogenous whilst in Europe and the USA the population is heterogenous.
He thinks that maybe the.fact that most infected Chinese were elderly may not relate to other countries, i.e.the virus may behave differently according to the environment.
