Football finance expert Kieran Maguire saying today that if the fixtures are not completed in full the final outcome of the season will be decided by the courts.
Not sure what he's getting at with that, Red.

I would imagine Leeds & WBA are tapping up their lawyers right now at the mere suggestion that they may miss out on a £170m bonanza.

If Carlsberg did football clubs...
Leagues will just be frozen and those in the current positions will go up and down.

So top 4 in League Two......:p:p:p

I guess he’s saying the PL and EFL can not legally make a decision alone.

If the season cannot be completed the League could do average points per game so far multiplied by the number of games per season.

Cheltenham 64pts ÷ 36 games X 46 games
= 81+ points

City 65pts ÷ 37 games x 46 games
= 80+ points

Cheltenham 4th
City 5th.

And how do you work that out? What about the team say that’s had a temporary blip after being up there for most of the season or the team with say a game in hand where a win would put them in the top four?
Or any number of other permutations? It wouldn’t rub , fairest would be to leave things as they were and hopefully start again fresh next season with the same leagues .All the lower league teams will have other things to think about anyway in that event if it gets that bad , like going bust from lack of cash flow for instance.
But I do appreciate that the smaller clubs are like small businesses and could possibility go bust too from lack of cash. That will be the biggest worry from a football point of view.If it goes on the leagues would be decimated anyway and might have to be revamped at a later date.

Let’s hope the EFL do not use a type of Duckworth/Lewis formula for the last 5 games to work matters out 😎😁😎

Not working anything out...merely making a flippant comment.

It seems there is provision, of sorts, for this in the FA rules.

According to The Times, they dictate that if 75 per cent of the fixtures haven’t been completed the season will be null and void. If, however, that has occurred, the standings at the point of cessation will count.

On this basis, it’s hard to see how, for instance, Liverpool won’t be awarded the title - and I think few would argue with that - but becomes rather more complicated where issues of promotion and relegation are involved.

You could make a case that if there are no play-offs, the fourth placed team in League Two should be promoted. At the same time, Cheltenham might reasonably argue they have played a game less, while the fourth bottom team in League One will no doubt be making a case for three up three down.

Good luck to those charged with resolving the situation!
