We had Ivybridge a few years ago and it was played at Newton Abbot Spurs Ground, they had floodlights and I think 'bridge' didn't, so If your thinking of going, check the venue 1st, you wouldn't want to go haring down the A38 would you now?

Who would live in a house like this?

The Devon Bowl. Shirley the most imprecise competition in football.

It may not even be 31 December 2011...

Aggh, the good old Devon Bowl. In my day it was known as the Devon Professional Cup, when only clubs with genuine professional players (albeit some part timers) took part. It was therefore always held by us, Argyle or Torquay, with limited participation from the likes of Bideford and Barnstaple.

In those days it was a real competition, not devalued by playing all the youth as we currently do. More to the point it was a good income generator, particularly before the days of the Football League Cup, the Paint Trophy etc.

If we all took it seriously again, then in these austere times it could perhaps once again provide another income stream, particularly if Argyle and Torquay are in a different league.

Never heard it called the Devon Professional Cup? It’s always been Devon Professional Bowl, that’s what it says on the old trophy.

Can't see that happening now Adrian. The fixtures are done so City and the two lesser professional teams play 'away' in all the rounds. If we played Argyle then Mr Plod would try and get his foot in the door and the clubs would make a loss.

According to the Devon County F.A. Handbook, the competition began in the 1937-38 season and was known as the Devon Professional Championship Cup.

In 1960-61 it became the Devon County Professional Bowl, but in the same season there was also a Devon County Professional Challenge Cup started which was dominated by North Devon clubs.

Since then of course it has also been known as the Devon St. Luke's Challenge Bowl.
