Hopefully the Cidermen can find some longer staying company for him at the crease next season.

On Somerset's website there's a chance to nominate the club's greatest-ever team. It's the all-rounder slot this week, so the winner may be predictable!

Last Ashes test in Perth in doubt due to Western Australia Covid restrictions. Could be switched to Melbourne.

Four names to choose from on the website: Ian Botham, Bill Alley, Sammy Woods, Craig Overton.

Bill Alley was a feisty Strine. Wasn't he about 70 before he finally packed away his pads ?

Some choice language when someone made a daft appeal when he was umpiring.

Aged 49 in 1968. He could probably have continued in one-day cricket for a while. Very steady medium-pacer, and snapped up gully catches with minimum fuss.

Bill used to have an artificial "confrontation" with Fred Trueman now and then!
