I wondering why the young lad Ollie Sale bowled at the death, when more senior bowlers hadn't had their four overs. Quoting below from the club website:

Somerset captain Lewis Gregory defended his decision not to bowl the final over himself. “We have had a lot of young players come through this season and part of the plan was to see how they coped with pressure situations,” he said.

“Ollie Sale has worked really hard on becoming a death bowler. There is nothing to say that had I bowled the last over the outcome would have been any different."

Given that a QF spot was at stake shirley a senior bowler should have bowled that last over.

I was down in Teignmouth enjoying the sun and on getting in the motor to drive back Somerset looked to have Gloucs on the ropes. It also seemed they could squeeze into third spot with a narrow loss as Northants were 6 down and needing 120 at more than 10 an over to win against the Bears and Leics looked unlikely to hold off Lancs.

Today's the day! Good luck to the Cidermen. If it's a rain-affected match, I'll be interested to see how the authorities contrive to award the trophy to Essex.

Given the fact that we are now (officially) in the Autumn season...with already typical weather to boot...might it not been better to conclude the "long game" tournament during the last couple of weeks (when the weather was STILL somewhat "summery") and conclude the "Bish-Bash-Bosh 20" until later..a short format that could, at least, try and dodge the downpours without quite as much disruption?

Cidermen 119 for 4 at stumps, having been put in. Not a good toss to lose. It's a familiar scenario for us to struggle with the bat. Let's hope the lower order and the bowlers can get us back into the game, as has happened before. Pity we won't be getting some assault and battery down the order from Jamie Overton!

174-5. Davies has departed but Craig has already biffed a couple of fours and edged a couple more. Lower order to the rescue yet again ?

On this pitch with autumnal conditions and Somerset's formidable pace bowling attack they could still be in the game if getting to say 250.

Make that 182 and 5 fours for Craig. Byrom joining in too : three fours off three balls by this pair
