Should be able to bowl out Yaaarkshire tomorrow and win. Then they must beat two relegation candidates Lancs and Hants to have any chance when Sorry turn up at the County Ground on 18 September.

Well it did all get wrapped up today with a comfortable win for England in the end but at 123-3 and half way there India looked on course to level the series with Kohli and Rahane set. Kohli looked lucky to survive a third umpire review but Moeen Ali got the pair of them just in time which was followed by a batting collapse. Moeen probably deserved the MOTM award for the 9 wickets but Sam Curran’s runs in both innings were priceless too. Battling innings out of character from Buttler and Stokes yesterday when we did bat all day as hoped. Root also going well before a daft run out.

Funny pitch where the batsmen on both sides found it hard to score despite the beautiful sunshine. Really gritty cricket over my two days there. Disappointing crowd size today.

The problems of our top order remain. Jennings worked hard yesterday but does not look good enough and Cook seems to have “gone.”

Not so good following the Lincoln game yesterday though. :(

Yes, I was strongly suggesting that Cook should step down at the start of the Aussie series last year and at various times since then, but was beaten down. He has let the team down on too many occasions but became an untouchable. When will people realize that there is a limit to patience when the facts indicate that an ex-hero has passed his expiry date? Same with Harley at City : new contracts given to him over 3-4 years justified by what he was and not what he now is and by one or two goals he scored over a season. Bring in talented youngsters if the golden oldies are turning to lead !!

Aggers has said there's apparently an ECB announcement at 12. Cook retiring?

Cook looked very unhappy as he trudged back to the dressing room on Saturday after his latest failure so that could be it.

More likely than that they are going to scrap the Franchise "100" after Kohli's recent criticism of the proposed formula.

Not sure the scrapping of the Franchise "100" would merit an ANNOUNCEMENT. Should just bin it off and forget they ever mentioned it.

This news about Alastair Cook is no great surprise, but I think it's a pity that he couldn't have extended his career for a few more years. He's 33, which is no great age when you remember that his mentor, Graham Gooch, made 333 at the age of 37 (against India!) in 1990, and had his finest years as a test match batsman in his late thirties. Still, if Cookie feels there is "no more left in the tank", then that's that. Whoever replaces him isn't going to find things easy, as England have huge problems with their upper order.

In a way I'm glad he hasn't struggled on any further with his test average falling as he continues. He deserves his place in cricket history. It will be interesting to see how the team sheet looks for next tour. Whatever is done, it will be a long time before we see an opening partnership like Cook in tandem with Strauss.
