Yes there was a Wilkinson who replaced Ted Calland around 1960/61
Correct. John Wilkinson signed as more a less a straight replacement for Ted Calland, who I believe saw out his career at Port Vale. Wilkinson more than filled the spot at No 9, as his goal return reflects. What I do find puzzling is that he signed from non league Poole Town, and left us for Wellington. (Not sure if that's the Somerset one) I thought he came from a Football League club, but the 'Bible' cant be wrong, can it?

It's 2021 and Ian Harris is still going on about Mackie :)🔫
And in other news elsewhere in 2021, certain indviduals are still banging the drum about Tisdale. There is one of me and dozens of them. Neither is any more relevant than a piece of City history.

Top stats there from Rosencrantz.

One factor is the standard of the team they were in. Alan Beer was a better striker than Ray Pratt, but Beer played with Kellow at his peak, and Lammie often took the penalties, so the goals were shared around.

Keith Bowker was a fine goalscorer who was unlucky that in his 2 spells he missed out on both promotion and the 81 cup run. I remember him being on the bench for a game in the Brian Godfrey era, and the Cowshed chanting "we want Bowker" as City were drawing or losing, forget which. In the days of one sub you would only have one name to chant!

Bowker came on, duly scored, and Godfrey had to insist afterwards that the crowd had not influenced his decision. Probably true but we enjoyed feeling we had!

It's one in the eye for all the Bowman knockers out there. He's hitting sub one in three, which is what decent strikers at their respective level aim for. Yes, they might come in streaks but they've got to be pretty regular streaks for that.

Yeah I had a problem with Nev's. All the online stats I could find for him from Grecian Archive (individual profile and total goals list), Wiki and a profile on the club website had different stats. Weirdly they all agreed on total appearances, 305, but not goals. They variously state 86, 98 and 101. My feeling is that they are probably league goals, league and cup goals and league, cup and trophy goals respectively.

In the end I decided to go with the stats in the ECFC bible to be consistent for those playing before 1990 but of course Nev's had another season in 90/91 which I couldn't find stats for. From foggy memory he was our top scorer that season in double figures so I do think he got around a hundred goals, but the appearances would have obviously been more as well than the 305.

But even if it was say 98 from 340 games, it was a great record for someone who played a lot on the wing early on for us as well as up front.
Yeah I found some players tricky, especially for the 'other cup' games which are essentially FL Trophy & FA Trophy games, as soccerbase was not always great at including all of those. This was my list, so would be interesting to compare.

http://grecianarchive.exeter.ac.uk/items/show/5305

League goals

http://grecianarchive.exeter.ac.uk/items/show/5315

Two of the best I’ve ever seen were Gary Alexander and Lee Bradbury though sadly only loan players.

From Rothmans Yearbook
1990/91 League: 40 apps [5 as sub], 11 goals. League Cup: 1 app, 1 goal. FA Cup: 2 apps, 0 goals. Leyland Daf: 4 apps, 1 goal.
For City: 305 League apps in total, 98 goals.
