This is all very true and helps puts his achievements thus far into context. So lets start looking at a value for Cheick. Assuming he keeps up his current form to the end of the season, and bags a couple more goals, what figure are we realistically looking at?

The sudden rise of Jordan Storey at centre half, who also scored a few in his short time with us, I believe was sold for circa £750k. I think we're probably in a better financial position now but if a similar bid came in for Cheick would we be reluctant to sell for a similar amount?
Jordan Storey is the obvious benchmark. Fortunately Diabate's transfer value is an entirely academic question until the summer transfer window. By which time he will have had the opportunity to quadruple his number of league games played. So there will be plenty more evidence on which we - mere mortal - fans can judge.

Just to point out we didn't pouch him from anywhere.

He was released by Stevenage and we took him up after seeing him at a trials day.

Really good joke. Almost as funny as when FBH cracked it at post 96 on this thread!

Just watched it. What a grounded, focussed and modest lad. Must have been tough to come away so far from home at that young age. Wonderful advert for the club and above all, the hard work and dedication of the academy.
Proud of my home town club. Well done to all concerned.

Proud of my home town club. Well done to all concerned.
PS It also takes a lot of guts to carry off a powder blue tracksuit like that at the top end of Sidwell Street

Wondering if I'm on a different planet
That is a very encouraging watch and it augers well for his future career. It's maybe a video that any aspiring young footballer would benefit from watching to see what dedication is required together with a willingness to knuckle down and work at his game.

Comfortably mid-table
A really impressive interview on so many levels.

Cheick comes over as well grounded and confident and tells his story simply.

Full props to the Club and the Academy for helping him to develop and to Cheick for taking his opportunity so well.
Interesting insight into how the Academy and Club have a firm pathway though to the first team with set goals and methods but also know how to tailor instructions and options to the player's personality and capabilities.
Also setting up the right environment at the training ground and the accommodation family to help Cheick settle in here.

And top marks to the media team: Scott Palfrey for his set of questions and relaxed interviewing style and others for the multi-camera work and editing.

It also shows how many different people play important but unseen roles for the club; the host family - Cheickh says it was awkward (of course) at first. If that had gone wrong then who could have blamed a 16 year old returning home? Now they are family to him.
