Firstly, there is already one relegation place assured. Morecambe are going down. As usual they had a decent start to the season but again as usual they have faded. Their finances are dreadful, October's wages were paid only after they sold their best player to PNE (he cannot play for them until January), the fee being an amount of money that will keep them going until the end of the season. Their last accounts show them to be £2 million in debt, which will now be more than that. The form table for the latter half of last season shows them as bottom of League Two and now the club and team are a lot weaker.

But in any event on last Saturday's evidence it will not take much to lift Exeter City. Our only defeat of this season was at Newport where we conceded in the first minute but were in the game for 80% of it. So even in that defeat we were OK. Your display at Brunton Park for 80% of the match was the first against us this season in which we were embarrassed, not by being bad but by being out-played by a better team. Then you retreated and used a bit of gamesmanship.

Play like you did for 80% of the match for 100% of all the close matches and more often than not it will work. Even if it works in less than half of the close matches it is 'points profitable' with 3 points for a win.

I see that there is much gloom on here but it would take so little change to make this Exeter City team a very competitive unit. Just stand your ground for the last 20% of games, thus offering a threat. There was a 1 - 3 win out there for you on Saturday, it just needed taking.

Cheers for your thoughts....

Agree that Morecambe look like they're in free fall so they could possibly drop.

As for us, the problem is that we can't see games out and trust me, we're a very different outfit at home where we rarely dominate and really struggle to score. So, if we continue to do so badly at home we will be totally reliant on our away form which is a big worry.

Ultimately, the fans have lost patience with the current regime and it would take a turnaround of monumental proportions to get fans back on side. I simply can't see that happening.

Bad times

Perhaps the club should invest on a few of these:

And then dedicate a bit of time at the C&F teaching the players how to hold on to them?

Presumably the Exeter City v Morecambe Conference Play-Off Final was the greatest distance ever travelled by two teams to play a domestic match in England.

Subsequently we took on striker Danny Carlton. He scored 2 goals in the entire next season. He is spoken of with total derision but he always gave all that he had, always made his presence felt and during his time the team scored a satisfactory number of goals. I think it is hardly a co-incidence. If Carlton fell into a barrel of breasts he would emerge sucking his thumb.

Cheers. Lets see how good you think we are when you come down to SJP and walk away with 3 of the easiest points you will ever earn.

We get many comments like yours - how well we played, how unlucky we were. The funny thing is we're bottom of the whole league.

Thanks for posting.
Sometimes it's difficult to avoid gloomy thoughts when things aren't going your way, but a bit of perspective is always good.
Although we have our share of serial moaners, most City fans are exceptionally patient (many years of practice!)

Perspective won't keep us in the league, sadly.

Errr.... I didn't say it would!

(If we could stop conceding from crosses, that would certainly help!)

The implication of your post was that things aren't as bad as all that. We're in the **** big time.
