With both Bolton and Bury already on minus twelve points, it now seems to be in the lap of the gods at the EFL whether League 1 starts the season with 22, 23 or 24 clubs next weekend. The EFL have no one to blame but themselves for allowing this unholy mess to come about through their ineptitude. All part of the Shaun Harvey legacy I suppose. Will the new CEO get things in order, whilst I hope so, I won't be betting on it !

The EFL have just announced that Bury's first game of the season against MK won't be going ahead. Sad times.

Not quite. They have until Monday to provide proof of funds.

The important thing about the CVA at Exeter was that the will existed amongst not only the fans but several other important players for the Club not to go out of business. It helped that we didn't own the ground as most of the tangible physical assets it did had were immediately seized by voracious creditors (things like the back up generator) Luckily the Trust had been formed in 1999 and had recruited people with useful skills who were able to attract other people at the critical time when the old owner asked the Trust to take control. It also helped that our then (and now) MP Ben Bradshaw was willing to smooth the passage of the CVA - since there were several reluctant creditors who looked likely to try and defeat it at the outset. We also had some really useful advice from Solicitors (not free but at a reduced rate) who helped the Trust make sense of what was a very confused legacy. Above all there were three or four people who when real effort was needed were willing to give up enormous amount of time to sort out a whole series of issues like Ground Safety certificate, dealing with the League (the Conference didn't want us to join - and then threatened points deduction) and dealing with local suppliers, many of whom were in the CVA. Summing up, it was a team effort, and it's very easy to forget as history moves on a) Who they were b) just how much efforts the fans put into saving the club c) How easy it would be to repeat the whole exercise. City may not be rich, but we exist, live within our means and have used the experience to develop a youth system and an embedded presence in our community. It's also (despite what other posters may say) relatively open and transparent in the way it conducts its business.
Good luck,

A wonderful post there Dr D!
(And one which some of our more recent "get rich quick, at any costs, merchants on here might do well to ponder - and do some recent historical research - before baying for "new owners"!)
Mind you, it has to be admitted that, even in those darkest days, a tiny bit of "luck" did help...ball 64 anyone?

In RaWZ we trust....Amen.
Burys opening fixture against MK Dons has been suspended after the club have still not given the EFL sufficient financial guarantees for the coming season.
A knock on effect for all clubs in L1 if Bury do go under(no pun intended!) with the reduced revenue at home over the season..When Maidstone folded just before the start of the 1992 season the FL compensated all clubs in the then 4th Division for the loss of the fixture.

Hope all turns out well in the end and they pay their dues, despite a dreadful record up there a trip to Gigg Lane always had a pretty good ambience about it.
