Here's a quote I received recently for solar panels. The panel cost is exactly £300, but there's a huge amount of other gubbins that you need as well, meaning 11 panels cost £10k. The projected payback period I was quoted (assuming I switched to an EV imminently) was 12 years. Obviously a domestic supply, and we have a SSE facing roof.

Appreciate that, would cost city more, but as they're business customers (I'm assuming) the savings would be greater. Definitely worth looking into. Was only 5/6 years ago and the panels alone were about 1k each and battery storage didn't exist for ordinary types.

I seem to remember somebody telling me, when i asked about this a few years back, that none of the stand roofs were of sufficient strength to take solar panels.
The panels might be made of a lighter material now so this may not be a factor, but......

To be perfectly honest, if we've got £X amount sloshing about in our account to spend on solar panels etc, then it would be better spent at The Cliff Hill that i'd argue has a greater electricity requirement than SJP, even with floodlights.

It was only a few pages back when people were saying that we should be spending £X extra, over and above what the playing budget is, on more better quality players.
Please point me in the direction of this wonderful 'money tree'.

I'm all for building for the future personally. So can accept that sometimes a club of our size can't have all the toys it wants.

Boyo I'm really surprised at the size of this quote. My own solar installation cost £9,500 9 years ago and has paid for itself several times over. Also I have 16 panels rather than the 11 in your quote.. I keep hearing that the installation cost has halved since then so I would advise you to look around as your quote certainly seems excessive.

Andy, I agree that a solar installation would be better utilized at The Cliff Hill rather than SJP.
Solar has certainly been a money tree for me. After my installation paying for itself several times over, my latest quarterly FIT payment was £924 plus an awful lot of free electricity.. Additionally my current gas bills are almost non existent because, rather than let my excess go back to the grid for a paltry 4p per unit (FIT payment now 60p per unit) I have diverted that excess to heating the water through a solar Iboost .The water is normally heated by gas.

There were Government grants ten years ago. There aren't now.

So for the C&F with the amount of 'squiggly juice' they consume per week/month i'd say you can at least quadruple that. Just think 50/60 players plus coaches showering 5 days a week, plus the running costs of the kitchen etc, then there are the offices to run and heat. It might be cheaper to build another Hinkley C than buy sufficient solar panels! :)
