It was a tidy sum back then iirc a few multiples more than a standard MK2.
He bought it off another lad in his class who was ace working on engines.
I bumped into him a couple of years ago,we had a good laugh & reminisce about the car
TBF That's why i love Bangers n Cash, I look at certain cars and reminisce, Its your childhood and a time when you first bought a car.

Ha...Great marketing in the late 1970s.
A decent 2CV commands good money these days in the Classic Car market.

A mate of mine who had one back in the 80s was pootling through London traffic when the steering wheel came off in his hands. Fortuitously he happened to be on the dead straight Roman thoroughfare that is Edgware Road, and managed to stop without an accident ! :)

The only mishap I had with a steering wheel was my own stupidity..We had a little trick in the gas industry to make the Vauxhall Viva & Bedford CF vans backfire in the early 80’s usually under the railway bridge in Cowick St.
High revs, drop into 2nd gear, turn off ignition for 2 seconds.’petrol is still going from the carb into the chamber, turn on,overload of petrol in exhaust which is ignited by the spark as the ignition is turned back on..BANG 😁...Turned the key back too far once & engaged the steering lock, quickly rectified luckily.

On another occasion in my CF I blew the exhaust off 🤣..I had a job explaining why the silencer was in pieces when I drove it back sounding like a tank to the garage at the gas depot..🙁

Going back to the 2CV,one featured in a Bond film
The Spy Who Loved Me(1977)
A great film that the car also featured in was the British film noir Dead Man’s Shoes(2004) It looked a bit strained with 4 local hoodlums riding around in it.

Say what you like about French cars, they did really used to come up with stuff that was off-piste and weird if not wonderful. The 2CV, the Dyane, the DS, the Renault 4 and this little gem we saw last month...
