How would an auditor know this? Presumably he wouldn't know better than the manager which players were any good, nor which players might potentially be any good and a good investment for the future. He also wouldn't know pretty much anything (I imagine) about the value to the team of staying overnight for away games, equipment purchases (the recently bought GPS trackers, for instance), the new 3G pitch or backroom staff involved with the playing side (coaches, physios, dieticians etc).As well as controlling cash income it is imperative that an auditor ensures that expenditure is spent wisely.
This isn't a sleight on auditors BTW, just a question as to how could they possibly know that expenditure was being spent wisely, especially regarding playing budgets.
