I thought Chrisene made his debut yesterday, which was the day before his 16th birthday. Ampadu made his debut at 15 also, but was further away from his 16th birthday. Is that not correct and has Chrisene already made his first team debut previously?

He came on as a sub in the Carabao Cup game (Coventry away), plus he's played in 3 EFL Trophy games coming on as a sub in all three of those games.

Dont forget the 30 odd years when Mike Radford was responsible for the then known Youth Development System before he was moved 'upstairs' and it was decided that we all of a sudden we had an 'Academy'. I know a lot of players have come through that in more recent times, as per the list, but many more quality players have gone on to greater things from there in Mikes time. i.e. Nicky Marker, Martin Ling, Frank Howarth etc.
Two that often get forgotten from the Mike Radford years are Mark Robson and Phil King. King went on to have a good career, playing for Torquay, Swindon and Sheffield Wednesday amongst others. Robson left us for Spurs and also played for West Ham and Charlton. King was from Bristol and both Ling and Robson were from West Ham. Mike did very well to get two young lads to move down here as juniors from London. His efforts often seem to be overlooked or forgotten, but he produced a lot of good players for the first team.

Cheers Hants. So Ampadu is still the youngest to make his League debut for the club?

Ampadu is the youngest league debutant and Chrisene is the youngest to make his debut in a competitive fixture.

technically correct though the facts are misleading. The ‘competitive’ fixtures that Chrisene played in before yesterday were sub appearances in the EFL trophy games where typically we have made ten or eleven changes from the previous fixture. So verymuch a reserve side , with Chrisene as a late sub. Similarly the Caraboa cup against Coventry was a reserve line up and Chrisene came on in the dying minutes, the game having been lost almost an hour earlier when we were 3-0 down after 30 minutes. Those games fit the technical description of competitive, but they were very much sub appearances for a reserve line up.

by contrast Ethan was starting league games when he was 15 and made his debut in a league cup win over Brentford when we were really trying to win with a strong team

Interesting read with figures etc, good to see Taylor trying to get his point across. Lets hope they start changing the rules and start making it fair for young players that move on for Lower clubs like ourselves.
