LB - Sparkes (converted) and Hartridge are now the only choices.
Isn't Smerdon a left back? I know he was out on loan and can't see he has been released....

Maybe Ajose is the one MT is looking to free up some space with.
Wishful thinking!

Didn't Ajose join us in order to study at the same time ? If he his doing that locally, it could provide constraints.

Are we that much weaker next year after this retained list?

Four of those released were make up players, in the squad just in case of injury or injured/unavailable for a fair part of the season, -Thompson, Warren, Holmes and Woodman (not allowing for the work Craig has done with the youngsters).

Richardson was always going back to Notts Forest and Matt has intimated that if possible he would like him back to continue the work with him,

Dickenson bought in to cover Jack Sparkes who is now fit and never really saw the best of him

Deano and Lee Martin are both near the end of their footballing careers and age was starting to tell on them

Which leaves Aaran Martin, as Matt says has had an up and down spell over the two years, brilliant with blocks and last minute tackles not so brilliant aerially in defence which is why you can see possibly why he has been released.

Matt has said that he wants to bring in 1 or 2 defenders which would cover the loss of A Martin and Moxey, and this enables some of our youngsters like Hartridge, Dodd, Dyer etc to step forward and show whether they are up for the challenge.

Upon reflection those gone may not leave us that much weaker, it just depends on who comes in to replace, and if the youngsters are hungry enough, could be interesting and exciting times. One thing for sure with the departure of Warren Holmes Moxey, Woodman and Lee Martin the average age of our squad has dropped dramatically

There's always one you forget isn't there and he's been at Tivvy all season 🤪. Sorry Noah, pencilled in for LB, LWB and at a pinch LW.

it might not be a case of have we got weaker or stayed the same but the league will have got stronger with the three clubs being relegated from League one plus other big spending clubs already in this league.

It’s good that Matt has been upfront and said this could be a sort of transitional season but as long as it stays as this season only.

We can circulate names all we want but we need other teams to want them and the players to go there, possibly with a wage cut and a top up agreement from ourselves to sweeten the move. Probably won't be easy at the moment with a lot of players free agents and we would have to really know that we were replacing them with better, probably for less money.

I would say it is as likely that we could be putting out messages to those interested what we would be prepared to accept (plus a bit for inevitable bartering) for Randell Williams. Unless we have managed to get him on a new extended contract before Covid struck he will be walking for nowt this time next year. And I would expect his agent to have hidden all pens, pencils, felt tips and crayons from Randell before he agreed to a new contract.

With regards the right back issue, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Matt hasn't got Kane Wilson in his sights already as either a proper full back or to take over from Randall Williams as wing back should he disappear over the summer.

It could be an exciting time and I have been looking forward to our young players coming through. Our U23 games have often been more entertaining in the last few years than the first team. But League Two is a lot different from U23 and FLT games and a different level from Conf South and Southern Premier. We could very well end up with an exciting team to watch, but we will need to be aware of the lack of experience, accept some inconsistency at times and be patient whilst they are incorporated in to the first team rather than expect an immediate promotion charge (although it would be nice).

We played against a full strength Pompey side in the FLT with kids and they very nearly pulled it off. I say put them in.
