Its important to be clear on one thing about pasties - they are not a Cornish creation. The first reference to pasties reveals them to originate in Devon.
Correct. The ball came off Nombe. I must say the linesman was quite awful and had a terrible game. We always criticise officials but he was seriously dreadful and you have to wonder how he has the job.
The throw in that led to the goal was incorrectly awarded to City. The last player to touch the ball was definitely Nombe - I had a very clear view.
From the St. James Road end, for the first time since March 20 1965!
The linesman on the Stagecoach side had a poor game all round. I noticed...
I was against the new scoreboard, but I now like it. I see it as a part of the whole process of making the ground fit for Division 1. This should include improvements to the 'triangle' between the new stand and the Big Bank, which might allow us to increase capacity. I think we could...
I was unaware of the number of Scottish clubs in fan ownership. It occurs to me that it would make a fine pre-season tour. Get Wimbledon up there at the same time, and you have a British tournament/championship.
A very good performance and most impressive. My friend and I predicted MoM despite the heroics of Stubbs. I suspect the weakness of the Stevenage midfield may have helped, but his balance and slickness, and especially that effortless turn, reminded of the long forgotten Chris Holloway. As...
I am regularly found out by far more knowledgeable people on Exeweb, but wasn't Alan Banks a record signing?:
''Exeter City paid out a club record fee to obtain his transfer in November 1963.[1]''
My faltering memory seems to think we paid £15,000.
Worth every penny, of course.
Forgive me for being a little pedantic, but our ball would not have been the ball drawn out for Cambridge Utd. So it is very unlikely that we would be playing Newcastle United. We would simply have been in the third round draw, nothing more or less.
Little doubt in my mind that their player was offside and clearly interfering with play. If that was not bad enough, the linesman correctly spotted it and signalled immediately.
The referee then takes the time to consult the linesman and consider the situation. This is the worst bit...
A curious game, rather lacking in atmosphere. Carlisle probably had the edge prior to the sending off, but one always had the feeling that City had the better players and would eventually prevail. It was interesting tactically: we began by pumping the ball upfield where their big centre...
