But he is registered with the English FA so surely if Rangers want to sign him they would have to adhere to whatever regulations apply here? Otherwise any FA could set up a scheme with minimal compensation and sign players from anywhere for next to nothing.
Like the PL you mean....

It is a loophole in the system and it winds most managers up , but if Alfie just runs down his contract city will lose out big time and Alfie and his agent will gain more 🤨

It seems that even Celtic have also been victims of losing star academy players to teams like Liverpool and Bayern.
In fact, they have even acquired young players from England who have then been snatched from them by English clubs. Perhaps that might happen to Pond : he goes to Celtic or Rangers and within a year moves back to an English club
It's all about the food chain. Minnows have little chance when up against sharks. There's no levelling up in football.

Oli was going nowhere within the club at 17, something even Oli himself acknowledges, nevermind joining an elite European club.
Exactly, he therfore didn't have the opportunity, so we'd never know if he'd have shown loyalty or not to ecfc.

Mike,
Without wishing to be pedantic but, minnows and sharks are different in that minnows are fresh water fish whilst sharks are salt water and therefore, in reality, they would never meet!

Without wishing to be even more pedantic
1. Minnow is a generic term for any small fish.
2. Minnows are used as live bait for ocean fishing, apparently enjoyed by larger fish. Therefore a passing shark which has not eaten for a while might be tempted to have a nibble with the poor, innocent minnow
3. There do exist minnows which can inhabit water which has a high degree of salinity

Over to you.....

But there not going to get game time at league one. If they were I agree it would be different
Oh yee of so little faith. It was odds on that Lee and Pond would be getting game time this season with our squad as thin as it is
