23rd June 1986.

A late nighter on BBC1 Barry Mcguigan defending his World Featherweight Title against Steve Cruz in Vegas.

Texan Steve Cruz was a replacement for Argentinian Fernando Soso who was injured training for the bout.
Unfancied Cruz won on points over 15 rounds.
Mcguigan was exhausted at the end & must have wondered about agreeing to holding the fight outside in the evening in the desert heat.

Mcguigan famously won his title in the cooler surroundings of Loftus Rd the year before.

Always liked Jack Dempsey's explanation to his wife for his defeat against Gene Tunney: "Honey, I forgot to duck" .

In RaWZ we trust....Amen.
The two part Horizon programme looked pretty heavy duty on emotions that evening.

Far away across the field
23rd June 1979.

World Cup Cricket Final,England v West Indies.
60 over competition in those days.
England were a bit short in the bowling department,Geoff Boycott turned his arm for a few overs iirc.
Juke Box Jury was back on the BBC after a 12 year hiatus.
This was the episode that included John Lydon(Presenter Noel Edmonds introduced him
by his Sex Pistols name of Johnny Rotten) along with Joan Collins & Alan ‘fluff’ Freeman.
It was as entertaining as it was surprising that Lydon had been invited onto it.
Juke Box Jury lasted the one season in this run.
It briefly made a reappearance in 1988/89.

I Certainly remember watching the start of the Cricket World Cup Final until 1pm & Juke Box Jury later on.
I was at my dear old grans that day in Exmouth.Watching in B&W of course. She did not have a Colour TV until around 1990.A place of peace & relaxation plus she would always get me in Coca Cola & McVities Choccy biscuits as if I were still a child.I was 18 at the time😁😁

Something very comforting about a visit like that to your Grandparents.

My grandmother usually had "Hello Grandma, got any sausages?" (or similar greeting) when visited by a young greyhound pup.

Sadly I met only one grandparent and he died when I was 12 He was ill with cancer for some time.

Grandchildren visiting me is a great pleasure to make up for that a bit.

24th June 1988.

Alas Smith & Jones, just the i missing in alas, for the name of a well known US Western series from the early 1970s.
A spin off from the very successful Not The Nine O’Clock News, minus Rowan Atkinson & Pamela Stevenson.
I loved the duologue of Mel Smith & Griff Rhys Jones facing each other.

I was lucky, Had one Grandparent on either side until I was in my 30's, They both passed at good ages, 92 and 103, Now I've got 4 grandchildren and like you love seeing them.
